New Orleans Mission Trip-
Apostles youth and I just returned from our Mission Trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. Our motto for the week was “Be the Church” - and that’s exactly how we modeled our service. We worked on various projects for the local community, including tiling a floor, painting a concession stand, packing backpacks with school supplies, working with children’s programs, and building a roof on a house that was destroyed in the Katrina Storm. We worked Monday through Friday from 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon under the hot New Orleans sun. Without the Lord’s help we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish half of what we were able to do.
We also went downtown to hand out water to the homeless and to share our faith and to pray with them. It was good to get out of the comfort zone of our lives and see how other people are living and struggling daily with the bare essentials of life. A couple of the nights we went down to the French Quarter to do some street evangelism on the river walk. I was proud to see our youth go out and pray with complete strangers and to tell them about the love of Christ.
Overall the trip was a great experience, filled with challenges that really helped to grow our faith and strengthen our relationship with the Lord. We are planning another trip like this next year, and we have lots of events and some really cool things planned for the Fall and Winter for our youth.
